Women's Soccer Strikes Four Times in Second Half in Home Win

WINCHESTER, Va. - Four second half goals led the Shenandoah University women's soccer team to a 4-2 non-conference home win over Gettysburg College on Wednesday night.

McKenna Newcome struck twice for the Hornets (2-1) to put them in front after the Bullets (0-1-1) tallied the lone goal of the first half. The Hornets added a pair of insurance goals to maintain their late lead.

RECAP

Gettysburg scored first in the 21st minute from long range off of a free kick, giving the visitors a 1-0 lead. Despite Shenandoah having eight shots and six corner kicks in the first half, the Bullets still led at halftime.

Early in the second half, the Hornets earned a penalty kick after a foul by the Bullets in the box. SU turned to 2025 All-Region player McKenna Newcome to take the kick, with the midfielder scoring on the left side of the net, making it 1-1.

Newcome's scoring didn't stop there as she picked up her second goal of the game three minutes later for a 2-1 SU lead.

Ten minutes after Newcome's goals, first-year Ella Cieri registered her first career goal off a Hornets' corner. Emme Rivera picked up the assist on the goal. Gettysburg was able to cut its deficit down to one with a goal in the 73rd minute.

Cieri didn't have to wait long to gain another point in the stat column, as she assisted Ellie Ajello in the 86th minute, pushing SU's lead back up to two.

Morgan Musselman got the start in net for the Hornets and made one save for her first win of the season.

The Hornets had an 11-2 advantage in corner kicks and led 15-4 in shots.
