WINCHESTER, Va. – The Shenandoah University women's lacrosse team put itself in position to earn an ODAC Tournament berth by blowing out Randolph College 19-2 Wednesday evening on the Sprint Field at Shentel Stadium turf.
In that case, SU and the Quakers would be tied with three league wins each with Shenandoah earning the tournament berth based on the head-to-head tiebreaker.
The Hornets, playing in their benefit game, "We Ride With Reese" wasted little time in taking out the WildCats (3-12, 0-7).
After Arndt scored that first goal, her younger sister, Cassie Arndt, scored just 21 seconds later to put the hosts up 2-0.
Jacque Hemler then got what proved to be the game-winner with an unassisted goal at 28:43.
SU eventually scored the initial 10 goals of the game, with Bove tallying twice, and took a 13-1 lead into the half.
Randolph scored its final goal by opening the second half scoring exactly 60 seconds into the second stanza.
Shenandoah outshot the 'Cats 34-5, won 20 of 23 draw controls and had a 24-11 advantage in groundballs.
"It was a nice to get ourselves one win closer to the tournament," head coach Lindsey Lutz said. "That (making the tournament) has been our goal all season long."
Note: The fundraiser, "We Ride with Reese" has raised more than $1000 to date. All of the money is earmarked for Reese Walker, a seventh grader from Fayetteville, North Carolina that has been diagnosed with Ewing's Sarcoma. Both teams wore special green t-shirts in warm-ups prior to the game in honor of Walker.
