LEXINGTON, Va. – No. 15 Washington and Lee scored the opening five goals of the game Wednesday night to key a 14-4 ODAC women's lacrosse victory over Shenandoah.
The Generals (6-2, 3-0 ODAC) scored those five goals in the first 11:44 to pull away from Shenandoah (4-4, 1-1).
The loss snaps a four-game winning streak for the Hornets.
Freshman Brittany Arndt finally snapped the scoreless streak for SU with her unassisted goal at 12:59.
Senior Samantha Sisson closed out the first half scoring by tallying unassisted at the 3:05 mark.
Now down just three, 5-2, Shenandoah saw its hosts pull away by scoring the initial three goals of the second half.
Liz Bereit and Arndt, with a pair of free position goals, snapped the W&L run, but it was not enough.
The Generals scored the final six goals of the contest.
Washington & Lee outshot SU 26-12 and won 13 of 22 draw controls while holding a 13-11 advantage in groundballs.
Goalkeepers Ashley Cross and Cara Mulligan split 12 saves.
The Hornets continue this road trip with a 7 p.m. Saturday night at Lynchburg.
