LEXINGTON, Va. - The Shenandoah University women's basketball team fell 77-65 at Washington and Lee in an ODAC contest Saturday afternoon.

W&L (13-8, 9-4 ODAC) used an 18-2 run to end the first quarter on its way to defeat Shenandoah (9-11, 5-8) for the fifth straight time.

THE RUNDOWN

1st Quarter

The Generals held the Hornets to just nine points in the opening stanza and broke open the contest by scoring 11 straight over the final 2:39 of the quarter.

2nd Quarter

Shenandoah scored the initial two baskets of the second and held W&L's offense to just 11 points. SU matched the Generals in the period and went into halftime trailing 39-20.

3rd Quarter

Jordan Sondrol and Olivia Weinel generated some offensive firepower after the break. Sondrol scored the first three baskets for the Hornets, including two 3-pointers, to keep SU within striking distance. Weinel nearly doubled her career high (six points) in the third quarter alone, scoring 11 of the Hornets 20 points. Heading into the final quarter, Washington & Lee held a 60-40 lead.

4th Quarter

Shenandoah made a strong push in the fourth, cutting the deficit to as little as eight points. Sarah Sondrol scored eight consecutive points after Ashley Stone made a '3' to start the quarter. Kelsey Jones knocked down a 3-pointer of her own to start a 14-2 run with 3:38 remaining. Jones scored 11 of those points with Olivia Ceccato hitting a 3-point jumper in the middle of the streak. The Generals ended the game with four straight from the line.

QUOTE OF THE DAY

"We came out of the gate and got rolled over," head coach Melissa Smeltzer-Kraft said. "Unfortunatly, it took us too long to figure out how to respond. We saw some great things from the bench starting with Weinel in the third quarter to Sarah Sondrol and Jones in the fourth. We must learn from this experience and finish out the rest of the season strong. We have five regular-season games left, we need to continue with the momentum we created in the second half of play."
