FOREST, Va. - The Shenandoah University women's basketball team is the No. 9 selection of the ODAC coaches in pre-season poll results released Thursday as part of the league's annual media day.

Shenandoah, preparing for its fifth season under the direction of head coach Melissa Smeltzer-Kraft, has 60 points in the poll to take the ninth position by six points over Roanoke.

SU is four points back of No. 8 Washington and Lee.

The Hornets finished ninth in the 2017-18 regular season standings last season and advanced to the ODAC quarterfinals for the second straight year with a 76-68 win over eighth-seeded Eastern Mennonite in the opening round of the tournament.

Shenandoah returns four starters: Sarah Donley, McKenzie Mathis, Jordan Sondrol and Ashley Stone, off of that 12-win team. Sondrol and Stone both earned All-ODAC accolades in 2018.

Randolph-Macon is the pre-season pick to win it all again in 2019 with 139 points and seven first-place votes. The Yellow Jackets are three points clear of 2018 regular season champ Emory and Henry. The Wasps have 136 points and the remaining six first-place votes.

Voting was done on a 12-1 basis with coaches unable to vote for their own teams in the poll.

Shenandoah opens its 2018-19 season on November 10 with a 2 p.m. non-league home game versus Hood College.

The ODAC opener is Sunday, November 25 versus E&H.
