Women's Hoops Announces Slate

WINCHESTER, Va. – Shenandoah University Head Women's Basketball Coach Melissa Smeltzer-Kraft announced her 2018-19 schedule Tuesday morning.

Smeltzer-Kraft, who led her Hornets into the ODAC Tournament quarterfinals for the second consecutive year last winter, has 15 home games on the docket this coming season.

A home tournament, the first for the program since 2006-07 season, highlights the home slate. Smeltzer-Kraft's club welcomes Southern Virginia, Bethany (W. Va.) and Westminster (Mo.) into the James R. Wilkins, Jr. Athletics & Events Center December 28 and 29 for the two-round tournament. SU plays Southern Virginia in the opening game of the tourney.

The squad begins its first full season in the Wilkins Center on Saturday, November 10 with a 2 p.m. non-league contest versus Hood.

The game, the sixth straight year that the Hornets and Blazers have met on the hardcourt, is one of five home games for SU in November.

Smeltzer-Kraft's club hosts Mary Baldwin on the 14th and PSU-Altoona on the 17th in non-league contests before opening up home ODAC play versus Emory and Henry on the 25th. The team completes the month on Wednesday, November 28 with a 7 p.m. ODAC tilt versus defending champion Randolph-Macon.

The Hornets host Lynchburg and Goucher on December 1 and 5, respectively, before wrapping up 2018 with its own tournament.

In January, Guilford, Hollins, Roanoke and Virginia Wesleyan visit for ODAC contests.

Shenandoah completes its home slate with February contests versus Randolph (the 2nd) and Eastern Mennonite (the 13th).

There is just one road non-league contest – at Marymount on Tuesday, November 20 – with SU traveling to Randolph, Ferrum, Bridgewater, Virginia Wesleyan, Eastern Mennonite, Washington and Lee, Randolph-Macon, Hollins and Lynchburg for ODAC games.

"We are so excited to have a full season in the Wilkins Center," Smeltzer-Kraft said. "We had great success after moving into the building last season and can't wait to build upon that foundation."
