ATLANTA, Ga. – The Shenandoah University women's basketball team earned its first-ever WBCA Academic Team Honor Roll accolade in selections announced Tuesday by the Women's Basketball Coaches Association.
For the past 23 years, the WBCA has collected team GPAs and recognized the top 25 teams in each NCAA classification, as well as the NAIA and two-year schools, as WBCA Top 25 Team Honor Roll recipients.
The Hornets, with a team GPA of 3.622 for 2017-18, are the No. 11 team in Division III.
Shenandoah was just .003 behind Johns Hopkins for a spot in the top 10.
Donley, Mathis, Turner and Brooke Riley all posted a 4.0 in the fall semester.
"This is such a tremendous accomplishment for our program," head coach Melissa Smeltzer-Kraft said. "I am so proud of the young women for excelling to this level in the classroom.
"We had a great year on the court and this honor makes it even more rewarding."
The Hornets finished 12-15 this past year, its highest win total in Smeltzer-Kraft's four years as head coach, and advanced to the ODAC Tournament quarterfinals for the fourth time in six years of league play.
