BOSTON, Mass. – Senior Shamyra Wilkerson qualified for the 200-meter finals at the 2019 NCAA Indoor Track & Field Championships Friday evening with a seventh-place finish in the preliminaries.
Wilkerson posted a 25.18, second place showing in the first of five heats and then waited out the remaining four heats to see if the time would hold up.
Standing fifth heading into the final heat, the six-time All-ODAC honoree saw two of the four runners in that last heat fail to beat her time and thus punching Wilkerson's ticket into Saturday's final.
Saturday's final is scheduled for 4:15 p.m. Upon successful completion of the race Saturday, Wilkerson will become the program's first-ever All-America honoree.
Earlier Friday, Wilkerson finished 13th in the preliminaries of the 60-meters with a 7.78 seconds
The 200-meter time is a new school record, breaking the mark she previously set at the 2019 ODAC Championships.
