Wilkerson Sets 60m Record at Ithaca

ITHACA, N.Y. - Senior Shamyra Wilkerson paced the Shenandoah University Indoor Track & Field teams at the Bomber Invitational hosted by Ithaca College.

Wilkerson placed first in the 60-meter sprint to highlight eight top-10 finishes.

The Hornets had 25 personal bests and 17 ODAC conference championship qualifying marks on the day.

Wilkerson broke the 60 meter school record twice and her performance in the final currently ranks 19th in Division III. She is third in the South/Southeast region and second in the ODAC.

The men's squad saw 12 personal bests with seven conference qualifying marks. Jason White and Wilson Jackson led the way by making their way into the top-10. White placed in both the long and triple jump while Jackson placed sixth in the 500m.

On the women's side, 13 personal records were set and 10 events saw conference championship qualifiers. Wilkerson broke the 60 meter school record, 7.95 seconds, in the semi-finals before setting another new record-mark in the finals at 7.87 seconds.

Delia Mack and Ariana Williams cracked the top-10 in the 500 meters sprint, Beatrice Maku joined in the high jump. Freshman Rebecca Doran finished sixth in the 3,000 meters.

QUOTABLE

"Today was a great day for both squads," head coach Andrew Marrocco said. " There was a lot of positivity and excitement from both sides. Wilkerson's 60 meter performance got the energy rolling and everyone fed off that excitement heading into their own events. Today's results make for good momentum heading into the D1 heavy Winter Relays."

UP NEXT

The Hornets will stay local next weekend, competing at the Virginia Military Institute Winter Relays on Friday and Saturday in Lexington, Virginia.
