NEWPORT NEWS, Va.- The Shenandoah University indoor track and field teams opened up their 2018-19 slate Sunday at the Holiday Opener hosted by Christopher Newport University.

The two teams combined for 12 top-10 finishes along with ten personal records and seven ODAC Indoor Championship qualifying marks.

Sophomore Jason White had the top finish for the two squads, finish second in the triple jump at 13.52 meters.

Ayanna Dixon had the highest finish for the women after placing fourth in the triple jump. Beatrice Maku and Jamie Ryan followed behind Dixon with Maku posting a fifth place in the high jump and Ryan a fifth in the weight throw.

ODAC QUALIFIERS

  • Shamyra Wilkerson qualified in the 60-meter with a time of 7.99 seconds

  • Renee Custer qualified in the weight throw with a distance of 11.51 meters.

  • Jamie Ryan qualified in shot put and weight throws with a 9.95 meters and 11.91 meters, respectively. 

  • Elijah Morton qualified in the 60-meter with a mark of 7.10 seconds.

  • Jason White qualified in both long and triple jumps with distances of 6.15 meters and 13.52 meters, respectively.

COACH'S THOUGHTS

"Today was a great start to the season," head coach Andrew Marrocco said. "I am happy with the personal efforts of all who competed today. We had a handfull of personal bests and ODAC qualifying results in the first meet of the season. We are looking forward to making improvements from now until when we host the inaugural Wilkins Center Invitational."

UP NEXT

Both teams are now off until hosting the inaugural Wilkins Center Invitational on Sunday, January 13.
