Former Hornets standout Denise (Mitchell) Frey is in her second year on the SU coaching staff.
Frey, who starred for the Hornets from 2010-13, began her coaching career after completing her Doctorate in Physical Therapy studies in 2015.
Frey, who married former SU baseball standout Christian Frey '12 in the summer of 2017, played in 177 games during her career, starting each one, and hit .275 with 138 hits in 501 at-bats.
A standout catcher, the Ellicott City, Maryland native holds program records for most games played and started, most putout and is second in total at-bats. She was a third team All-USA South honoree in 2012, and after Shenandoah transitioned to the ODAC, she earned 2013 ODAC All-Tournament honors after helping the Hornets to the league championship game.
Off the field, she was a two-time Academic All-State honoree and was inducted to the ODK national leadership honor society in 2012.
