SALEM, Va. – The Shenandoah University softball team saw its season come to an end Saturday evening with a 4-2 loss to No. 2 Emory & Henry in Game #9 of the ODAC Tournament.

Emory & Henry (26-15) used a three-run sixth inning to rally for the win over Shenandoah (19-23).

IN DEPTH

The Wasps were able to get on the board first after Kendall Varner drew a walk from Megan Scalley to lead off the bottom of the first.

Varner stole second and came home on Anna Thomas' single through the right side on the next play.

Shenandoah tied it in its next at-bat Nikki Stone led off the top of the second with a double to left center field and scored on Sierra Beaty's two-out double to left center.

Beaty and Allie Schey were stranded when the wind left a Carly Shaw drive to right hanging up for the final out of the frame.

SU left a runner on base in both the third and fourth innings.

Shaw doubled to right center to lead of the fifth and advanced on a Beasley single through the left side.

The next batter, Morgan Henley, dropped a single into center field to score Shaw.

Henley and Beasley were left on base as Tiffany Cole was able to retire the next three Hornets before more damage was done.

Beaty was left on base in the top of the sixth after getting on base with a line drive up the third base line.

E&H scored three runs off three hits in the bottom of the sixth. Thomas singled to center field and stole second to put herself into scoring position.

Center fielder Erin Anderson brought Thomas home with a single up the middle and was able to advance to second on the throw.

With two outs, Madison McClanahan hit one over the right field wall for a two-run home run.

Shenandoah was retired in order in the top of the seventh inning to conclude the game.

The Hornets left eight on base in the contest.

Megan Scalley (6-9) took the loss after giving up the four runs on four hits and three walks in the complete game. Scalley recorded two strikeouts.
