WINCHESTER, Va. – Visiting Guilford College likely locked up a spot in the upcoming ODAC softball tournament by sweeping a doubleheader from Shenandoah University Saturday afternoon.

Guilford (24-11, 9-9 ODAC) rallied for a 4-3 win in game one before coming-from-behind again in an 8-6 game two victory.

GAME ONE

Visiting Guilford rallied with three runs in the seventh to earn a 4-3 win in the opener.

Shenandoah had taken a 2-1 lead with a run in the sixth, but saw the Quakers put their first two hitters on base and then got a pair of hits to take the lead.

SU threatened in the bottom half of the frame, loading the bases with two outs, but could not push across the tying run as GC pitcher Katie McNeill induced a game-ending fly ball to center.

Morgan Henley had three hits and Maryann Hollen and Meghan Stout two each to lead the Hornets offense.

Freshman Megan Scalley (6-6) took the loss after allowing four runs on nine hits in 6 1/3 innings. She struck out three.

GAME TWO

With the Hornets on top 4-2 after scoring two runs in the second and two more in the fourth, the Quakers struck for five runs in the fifth on its way to the 8-6 win.

Casey Bunting did the damage in that rally, hitting a three-run home run over the left field fence to break a 4-4 tie.

Shenandoah scored twice in the fifth to keep it close before GC added an insurance run in the seventh.

Carrie Robinson (8-8) went the distance and allowed the eight runs on 13 hits and one walk.

Abigayle Rowell (7-4) was the winner for GC. She gave up six runs (five earned) on 11 hits and four walks.

Carly Shaw was 4-for-5 with two runs scored and an RBI for the Hornets.
