Lynchburg Sweeps Softball Doubleheader

WINCHESTER, Va. – No. 6 University of Lynchburg combined a pair of strong pitching performances with solid hitting to sweep an ODAC softball doubleheader from host Shenandoah Saturday afternoon.

Lynchburg (24-4, 7-1 ODAC) was an 8-0 winner in game one before completing the sweep over Shenandoah (12-13, 3-5) with a 6-3 victory in the nightcap.

GAME ONE

Lynchburg pitcher Taylor Belknap held Shenandoah to just two hits in the 8-0, 6-inning victory.

Lynchburg scored three runs in the third, three more in the fifth and two in the sixth to end the game one inning early.

Belknap (7-1) allowed Meghan Stout and Carly Shaw singles and one walk while striking out three in the complete game performance.

Freshman Megan Scalley (4-3) took the loss for SU. She gave up six runs on eight hits and two walks in 4.0 innings of work.

First baseman Mackenzie Chitwood was 3-for-4 with six RBI for the victors. She had a three-run HR in the fifth.

GAME TWO

Shenandoah scored the first run on a Stout double to left center in the second and had the tying run at the plate in the seventh, but Lynchburg completed the sweep thanks to three runs in the third and three more in the fifth.

In the sixth, a Morgan Henley double to left-center allowed SU to score a pair of unearned runs and put itself in position to steal the contest.

Allie Schey led off the Shenandoah seventh with a single followed by a Shaw walk, but Lynchburg reliever Kayley Cox nailed down her fourth save with a flyout, a fielder's choice and a strike out looking.

Stout had three hits and Schey two for the hosts.

Carrie Robinson (6-6) took the loss after allowing six runs on seven hits and four walks.

Alex Cisar (11-2) was the winner. She gave up three runs (one earned) on seven hits in 6.0 innings.
