BUENA VISTA, Va. - Men's soccer earned its first victory of the 2018 season in a 5-3 non-league win at Southern Virginia.

Shenandoah (1-1-1) scored four unanswered goals against the Knights (0-4) in the second half to overcome a 3-1 deficit and take the victory.

HOW IT HAPPENED

23′ | Brian McConkey took a direct kick from 40 yards out, serving it to Derrick David, who played the the ball in front of the net for Trace Becker to tap in.

56′ | Chance Hollins collected a loose ball on the left side of the box and slipped his shot past the Knights' goalie Kostner Olson.

66′ | Andres Garces maintained possession through five SVU defenders, created space, and drilled his shot to the back of the net.

82′ | Garces controlled possession before playing the ball to David at the top of the box. David then dumped off a short pass to William Majano for the goal.

88′ | Senior Nick Seymour dribbled past the entire Knights' defense and beat the keeper for a goal.

20′ | Zach Martin scored the first goal of the game from an Elijah Mendoza cross.

43′ | Sam Kelley played the ball through the Hornet defense for Martin to score his second goal of the evening.

49′ | Martin picked up an assist for the night after he set Matthew Jones up in a one-on-one situation with goalie Sam Fischer.

"Tonight's game was a great improvement from the weekend," said Head Coach Matt Smith. "I am proud of these guys, especially our young players, for battling hard throughout the contest. We didn't quit when we were down and were able to dig ourselves out of the hole and walk away with a win."
