WINCHESTER, Va. - We continue our look at the Class of 2019 by meeting men's soccer captain Austin McCarron.

Exercise Science and Psychology double major with biology minor

Sport Played:

Why did you choose Shenandoah?

I chose Shenandoah because of the small school atmosphere. SU felt like home as soon as I first arrived on campus and I knew that it would provide me with plenty of opportunity to learn and grow.

Favorite Class and Professor:

Sport Psychology taught by Dr. Jessica Peacock

What do you like most about playing sports at SU?

My teammates and I have become really close with each other over the past few years. I have also had the opportunity to learn a lot under the guidance of Coach Smith that will set me up for a future in coaching.

Favorite thing to do in Winchester:

Spend time in Old Town Winchester.

Favorite SU Athletics Memory:

Our 3-2 win against Southern Virginia to start off my junior season.

What has playing athletics at SU meant to you?

Despite all of the time I spent injured on the sidelines, playing soccer at SU has meant a lot to me. I have learned a lot about myself and how to be a leader despite dealing with personal adversity. I have also been able to set myself up for a future in coaching and will be able to use my experiences here to be able to give back to future generations of soccer players.

Post-Graduate Plans:

I will be attending graduate school to further my education in Sport and Exercise Psychology or Human Performance.

Nobody knows that I...

once went more than three months without getting injured...
