FREDERICKSBURG, Va. – Host Mary Washington scored the game's first five goals on its way to a 17-6 non-league men's lacrosse victory over Shenandoah University Saturday afternoon.

Michael Brooks scored unassisted for SU (1-1) to stop the Eagles (2-1) opening run, but Mary Washington had a lead it would not relinquish.

UMW answered the Brooks tally, which came at the 6:11 mark of the first, by scoring three of the four second quarter goals.

Ryan Schott, unassisted at 2:58, was the lone SU tally of that stanza.

The Eagles pulled away in the second half, scoring five times in the third before closing out the contest with a four-goal fourth.

The Hornets tallied two times in each of the final two quarters.

Brooks led the visitors with three points on two goals and an assist with Schott adding two goals and Devon Weaver a goal and an assist.

Cameron Mullinix had the Hornets final tally.

Schott also had a team-high five groundballs.

UMW outshot Shenandoah 42-22, had a 45-30 edge in groundballs and won 14-of-25 faceoffs.

Hornets goalkeeper Jason Simpson had 14 saves.

SU is off until taking on Hood next Saturday, February 24, in a 1 p.m. non-league contest.
