Men's Lax Tops Hood

FREDERICK, Md. – The Shenandoah University men's lacrosse team earned its second straight win to start the 2013 season with an 8-5 non-league victory over Hood College Wednesday afternoon.

The Hornets (2-0) scored on a Matt Justice to Jeff Geddis goal 15 seconds before halftime and never looked back against the Blazers (1-2).

Geddis' goal, one of two he had on the afternoon, gave SU a 5-4 lead at the break.

The tally also started a 3-0 run for the Hornets that pushed the lead out to 7-4 with 3:12 remaining in the third.

Hood closed the third quarter on a goal at 2:31, but Shenandoah, on Geddis' second goal, had the only score of the final stanza.

The two teams were within one goal of each for the opening 15 minutes of play before a pair of SU goals, by Justice and Bryan Pope, gave the visitors at 4-2 lead with 13:52 remaining in the second.

Hood tied it up with tallies at 11:59 and 8:07 to set up Geddis to give the victors the lead for good.

Justice, Geddis and Pope all had two goals for SU with Justice and Aaron Paul dishing out two assists each.

Shenandoah outshot HC 40-24 and had a 60-56 advantage in groundballs while Hood won 13 of 16 faceoffs.

Tyler Quinn made 11 saves for the Hornets.

SU hosts Marywood on Saturday night at 7 p.m.
