BROWNS SUMMIT, N.C. – The Shenandoah University men's golf team is in ninth place after day one of the 2019 ODAC Championships hosted at Bryan Park outside of Greensboro, North Carolina.

With four scores in the 80s, the Hornets shot a collective 330 Sunday over the par-72, 6895-yard layout to come in three shots back of Virginia Wesleyan.

SU is five shots in front of Eastern Mennonite.

IN BRIEF

Perennial power Guilford was even on the day with a 292. The Quakers have a 13-shot lead over both Washington and Lee and Randolph-Macon.

Sophomore Joseph Gesell, playing on his home course, paced SU with a nine-over-par 81. Jeremy Mills had 82, Connor McCarthy 83 and Blake Woodie 84 to round out the Hornets total.

Josh Bianco had an 88 that did not count toward the team total.

Gesell and Mills each had three birdies on the day with Gesell recording his on the par-3, 172-yard fourth, the par-3, 158-yard seventh and the par-5, 518-yard 11th.

Mills also birdied 11 before recording a '2' on the par-3, 190-yard 14th and a '4' on the par-5, 492-yard 15th.
