ST. CLOUD, Fla. – The Shenandoah University men's golf team earned its first victory of the season by winning its own invitational in Florida.

Playing a second round at the par-72, 6508-yard Royal Links of St. Cloud, Shenandoah carded a 309 Friday for a 617 total and downed Southern Virginia by 10 strokes.

The Apprentice School finished third with a 668.

The win for the Hornets is the first for the squad since the 2007-08 season.

Joseph Gesell had a two-over-par 74, Jeremy Mills 75, Connor McCarthy 79 and Josh Bianco 81 to make up the 309 total. First round leader Blake Woodie was unable to start Friday's second round after coming down with the stomach bug Thursday evening and was forced to withdraw from the tournament.

Nathan Ouimette from Southern Virginia won the tournament with a two-over-par 146. He had a one-under 71 Friday.
