Men's Golf Eighth After Day One

SUFFOLK, Va. – The Shenandoah University men's golf team is eighth after day one of the 2018 VSGA Intercollegiate hosted by Virginia Wesleyan at Sleepy Hole Golf Club.

Playing the par 72, 6599-yard layout Monday morning, the Hornets had a 27-over-par 315 to stand eighth after day one of the two-day, 36-hole event.

IN BRIEF 

Senior Jeremy Mills paced SU with a five-over-par 77 with sophomore Joseph Gesell carding a 78, Blake Woodie a 79 and Connor McCarthy an 81.

Josh Bianco had an 82 that did not count toward the team total.

Mills had 14 pars in his round while Gesell and McCarthy both recorded a pair of birdies. Gesell birdied the 512-yard par-5 fifth and the 455-yard, par-5 13th.

McCarthy had a birdie '2' on the 145-yard seventh and 180-yard 16th.

Woodie recorded one birdie, on the 492-yard, par-5 second.

Randolph-Macon leads with a 298 with Division II Virginia Union three shots back. Shenandoah trails Bridgewater by five strokes and is three shots clear of ninth-place Lynchburg.
