ROCKY MOUNT, N.C. – The Shenandoah University men's golf team moved up one spot Monday to finish eighth at the Don Scalf Invitational hosted by N.C. Wesleyan.

IN BRIEF

Playing the second of two rounds at the Belmont Lake Golf Club, the Hornets shot a collective 312 Monday to pass William Peace and claim eighth place in the 13-team event.

SU finished just three strokes back of seventh place Sandhills Community College and 19 strokes in front of William Peace.

The Hornets 311 second round over the par-72, 7095-yard layout was the fourth best round of the day.

Host N.C. Wesleyan won the tournament with a 577 total. The Battling Bishops bested Greensboro by 12 strokes.

Senior Connor McCarthy took home SU medalist honors with a 73-74—147. His three-over-par total was just six shots off the lead.
