LYNCHBURG, Va. – Visiting University of Lynchburg continued its strong men's basketball season with an 89-75 ODAC victory over Shenandoah University Saturday afternoon.
Lynchburg (13-1, 4-1 ODAC) turned a seven-point, 35-28, halftime lead into the 14-point win on the strength of a 40-point performance from senior Connor Schroeder.
IN BRIEF
Schroeder, who scored 32 and 31 points versus Shenandoah (4-9, 0-5) last season, scored 29 of his 40 points following the break to end any thoughts of an SU comeback.
With Shenandoah down just three, 62-59, following a Christopher Chaney three-point play with 7:56 remaining, Lynchburg answered with a 14-6 run over the next 4:03 to effectively seal the victory.
SU would get no closer than eight points the rest of the way and Lynchburg closed out the game on an 11-5 run.
Schroeder had seven of Lynchburg's 14 points in that decisive run. He finished his night 17-of-22 from the field (3-for-6 from behind the arc) and 3-of-4 from the line.
Chaney led the hosts in scoring for the fifth straight game. He had 23 points and a career-high 20 rebounds.
The 20 rebounds is the third highest total in program history and the most since Chris Schrader '10 had the same number versus Methodist on January 31, 2009.
