FOREST, Va. - Four Shenandoah University field hockey players earned All-ODAC accolades in awards announced Tuesday morning by the league office.

Senior captain Morgan Payne and freshman Kelsey Jones headline the selections by securing ODAC/Virginia Farm Bureau Scholar-Athlete of the Year and ODAC Rookie of the Year, respectively. Teammates Taylor Hayes and Kayla Alderman round out the All-ODAC recognition for the 2018 season.

Payne and Hayes were selected first team All-ODAC with Jones and Alderman earning second team honors.

Payne is the third woman in program history to be named Scholar-Athlete of the Year.  The Jobstown, New Jersey native is a three-time NFHCA and ODAC All-Academic team selection as well as earning Academic All-State and an NFHCA Scholar of Distinction thanks to her 3.84 GPA as a Biology/Pre-Med and Public Health major.

This marks the second year in a row that an SU student-athlete has earned this award. Elizabeth Pardo was selected last year and Kelani Bailey earned it in 2015.

As a defender, Payne was selected All-ODAC first team for the second consecutive season. Payne scored four game-winning goals for the Hornets this fall while tallying nine goals and six assists for the ODAC finalist squad. In addition, she had three defensive saves. Her 2018 first team selection is her third All-ODAC honor in addition to being named to the All-Tournament team for the past three years. Payne will be competing in the NFHCA Senior All-Star Game later this month.

Hayes, the 2016 ODAC Rookie of the Year, joins Payne on the first team. Hayes ended the season with team-highs in goals and assists. Her 15 goals and 46 points are third best in the ODAC and she is second best in conference with 16 assists. The midfielder went 3-for-5 for penalty strokes and scored two game-winning goals.

The junior was named ODAC Player of the Week on September 24 and Synapse Sports DIII National Player of the Week on October 23. Hayes is a three-time All-ODAC honoree and a two-time first team selection.

Jones is the fourth SU player in history to earn ODAC Rookie of the Year honors and was a second team All-ODAC honoree this year. The midfielder recorded eight goals and 10 assists for 26 points on the year. Jones had a team-high seven defensive saves and ranked fourth in the conference for assists. On Saturday, the freshman was named to the 2018 ODAC All-Tournament Team for having a hand in two of Shenandoah's tournament goals.

Jones joins Hayes (2016), Jenna Rampale (2014) and Alexandra Darrow (2012) as ODAC Rookie of the Year.

For the third year in a row, Kayla Alderman was selected to the second team. The September 17 ODAC Player of the Week recorded eight goals and two assists for 18 points in her senior season. Alderman kept opposing goalies on their toes all year long recording 76 shots and placed 52 shots on goal, leading the team in both statistics. Alderman scored two game-winning goals this season and had the assist on the overtime goal in the ODAC semi-final on Friday night.

All four women played and started in every game during the 2018 season.
