YORK, Pa. – Host York College of Pennsylvania scored three goals in each half on its way to a 6-1 non-league field hockey victory Saturday afternoon.
The Spartans (2-1), who scored four goals on defending national champion Messiah in their season opener, scored in the 7th, 8th and 34th minutes to take a 3-0 lead into the halftime lockeroom versus Shenandoah (3-1).
YCP scored the initial goal of the second half before junior Katelyn Curtis put the Hornets on the board with an unassisted tally at 46:13.
The hosts scored two more goals, the former unassisted and the latter on a penalty stroke, midway through the second half to provide the final margin of victory.
Shenandoah goalkeeper Jenna Rampale had a season-high 13 saves as York applied steady pressure throughout the game with 32 shots and 14 penalty corners.
SU returns home on Tuesday for a 7 p.m. non-league contest versus Dickinson.
