WINCHESTER, Va. – The No. 25/27 Shenandoah University baseball team earned its first two wins of the season Sunday by sweeping a non-league doubleheader from Neumann.
Shenandoah (2-2) was a 13-6 winner in the 9-inning opening game before dispatching the Knights (2-3) in the 7-inning nightcap 10-3.
SU jumped all over Neumann in the opener, scoring six runs in the first and three more in the second to give starter Robert Klinchock (1-1) plenty of cushion.
Klinchock didn't need most that help as he struck out eight in seven innings of work while allowing four runs on seven hits and four walks.
The Hornets had 16 hits in the win with all nine starters getting at least one each. Robert Marcelle was 3-for-5 and Matt Moon 3-for-3 while Keegan Woolford had a double and a home run in his two hits in five at-bats.
Marcelle drove in two runs and Moon one.
Leading 5-3 heading into the fourth of the nightcap, SU scored four runs on four hits and one Neumann to break the game wide open.
Shenandoah is back in action on Friday with a 4 p.m. non-league game against SUNY-New Paltz.
