WINCHESTER, Va. - Shenandoah University Head Baseball Coach Kevin Anderson announced his program's leadership structure for the 2019 season Monday afternoon.
Anderson, who directed his Hornets to their second-ever ODAC championship last spring, announced that Tristan Baker, Robert Klinchock and Luke Nussman will serve as co-captains with the assistance of 11 teammates serving as class representatives.
Robert Marcelle, Brandon McKenzie and Jamie Naill will represent the senior class, Gerard DePhillips, Grant Thompson and Keegan Woolford the juniors, Ty Bennett and Joseph Veca the sophomores and Pearce Bucher, Carson Kulina and Mike Verzaleno the freshmen.
This group of 14 student-athletes, along with the coaching staff, will set the direction of the program for the 2019 season.
"These 14 players have been selected by their teammates to lead them this year," Anderson said. "All of these players understand what an honor this is to lead our program.
"We afford our players great latitude in setting the direction of our program, and these 14 student-athletes have a responsiblity to meet the standard of the players that have served in this role in the past.
"The coaching staff and I look forward to working with this players this season."
The 11 upperclassmen have a total of 10 All-ODAC accolades between them with Thompson and Woolford both selected first team All-ODAC last spring. Baker is a three-time All-ODAC honoree and Nussman has been picked twice.
In the classroom, the 11 have a 3.20 average GPA with eight of the 11 above 3.03 and three of those above 3.62. Naill leads this group at 3.71.
Shenandoah opens its 2019 season on February 16 versus 2018 NCAA Division III national championship participant Misericordia.
