WINCHESTER, Va. – A clash between two of the best Division III baseball programs in the nation happens Saturday afternoon as No. 11/26 Shenandoah University hosts No. 4/3 Randolph-Macon in a noon ODAC doubleheader.
The Hornets, 26-6 overall and 12-3 in the ODAC, come into Saturday's double dip riding a 16-game winning streak.
Prior to that contest, the Yellow Jackets were unbeaten in their previous 13 contests.
The doubleheader features the top two hitting teams in the league and the Nos. 2 and 3 teams in earned run average.
Shenandoah comes into the weekend with a .356 team batting average (.354 in conference) while Macon is hitting .318 overall and .321 in 16 league games.
R-MC has a second best 3.42 team ERA with SU third at 3.88.
DH Keegan Woolford, who leads the league in RBI with 48, is tied for sixth in home runs with five.
2017 ODAC Player of the Year Cole Migliorini is hitting .336 for the Yellow Jackets with 10 extra base hits and 28 RBI in 119 at-bats. Migliorini, an outfielder, is one of six Macon starters hitting at least .325.
On the mound, SU skipper Kevin Anderson figures to start 2017 ODAC Pitcher of the Year Colin Morse and junior southpaw Robert Klinchock with senior Michael Bugonowicz and junior Tyler Ritenour out of the bullpen.
Morse is 5-2 on the year with a 2.34 ERA and 52 strikeouts in 50.0 innings with Klinchock sporting a 4-2 record and a 5.85 ERA in 40.0 innings pitched.
Bugonowicz, a 2017 All-ODAC honoree, is 4-1 with four saves and a 2.78 ERA in 45 1/3 innings pitched. He has made four starts in his 11 appearances this spring.
Ritenour, a junior righty, is growing into his role as the squad's closer. He has three saves in 10.0 innings over 10 appearances. In that time, he has seven strikeouts and a 1.80 ERA.
Junior righthanders Colin Selby and Nick Roth have been the 'Jackets weekend starters this season with Selby normally getting the ball in game one and Roth in game two.
Selby is 7-1 with 75 strikeouts and a 2.63 ERA in 54 2/3 innings with Roth 7-0 in 51.0 innings pitched over nine appearances. Roth has struck out 46 while walking only two batters all season long.
In the 'pen, seniors Christian Cok and Cody Thompson have four and three saves, respectively. Cok, like Ritenour a submariner, boasts a 12.60 strikeouts per nine inning ratio. Thompson is almost as dominant, striking out 12.46 batters per nine innings.
Dating back to 1989, Shenandoah leads the series 21-10-1. The two teams have split the past 10 meetings.
