WINCHESTER, Va. - Shenandoah University Head Baseball Coach Kevin Anderson announced the leadership group for his 2018 squad Monday morning.
Additionally, seniors Nick Goode and Chase Smallwood; juniors Tristan Baker, CJ Morton and Luke Nussman; sophomores Gerard DePhillips and Grant Thompson as well as freshmen Ty Bennett, Matt Moon and Joseph Veca have been selected as class representatives to the leadership group.
This group of 12 student-athletes, along with the coaching staff, will set the direction of the program for the 2018 season.
"These 12 players have been selected by their teammates to lead them this year," Anderson said. "This is a tremendous honor, and a tremendous responsibility.
"We (the coaches) ask a great deal of our leaders. They lead us not only on the field, but in the classroom and with our community service. I expect that this group will live up to the example that has been set by the leadership groups of our past teams by being excellent students in the classroom, players on the field and great community partners.
"I look forward to working with them this year."
The nine upperclassmen have a total of six All-ODAC accolades between them with Morse and Nussman both selected first team All-ODAC last spring. In the classroom, the nine have a 3.39 average GPA with all nine above 3.08 and six of the nine above 3.3.
Shenandoah opens its 2018 season on February 17 versus Neumann.
