WINCHESTER, Va. - Shenandoah University Head Baseball Coach Kevin Anderson Wednesday morning announced the leadership structure for his 2016 squad.
Anderson, who is seeking to lead his Hornets to a second consecutive ODAC championship and to the NCAA Tournament for the seventh time in the past eight years, will have a captain and four alternate captains this spring.
Additionally, two seniors, two juniors, two sophomores and three freshmen have been elected as class respresentatives to the leadership group.
Seniors Robert Baczynski and Connor Molloy, juniors Donnie Forgacs and Tyler Hott, sophomores Jordon Edlund and Colin Morse, and freshmen Cayman Berg, Devon Berry and Zach Teeple were picked as the class representatives.
"We had a number of players earn votes for captain, and that is a testament to the excellent leaders we have in our program," Anderson said. "However, Lew stood out from the rest and will be our sole captain this season.
"This is a big responsibility, but I know he is prepared to lead his teammates.
"This structure has proven to work for us. The communication flows from player-to-coach and coach-to-player very well within this format, and I look forward to working with all 14 student-athletes in this manner."
Shenandoah opens up its 2016 on February 13 with a non-league doubleheader versus fellow 2015 NCAA Mid-east participant La Roche College.
