Bobcats Eliminate Baseball

WASHINGTON, Pa. – No. 8/9 Shenandoah University saw its baseball season come to an end Friday afternoon with a 7-2 loss to No. 2/2 Frostburg State on day three of the 2015 NCAA Mideast Regional hosted by Washington & Jefferson.

Shenandoah (28-10-1) led 2-0 thanks to one run in the second and another in the sixth, but FSU (39-7) rallied with two in the sixth before breaking the game wide open in the eighth.

The Bobcats scored five runs on four hits and two walks, sending 10 men to the plate against three SU pitchers to eliminate the Hornets from the tournament.

Until the eighth, Shenandoah starter Ryan Mossman (3-1) was strong, retiring 11 consecutive FSU hitters from the second through fifth innings.

Mossman had three strikeouts during this run and recorded another six outs via groundballs.

In that fateful eighth, Mossman threw what appeared to be an inning-ending double play ball, but saw the ball bounce off of his glove and squirt into short right, allowing the Bobcats to place runners at the corners.

Frostburg followed with consecutive singles, and after an intentional walk to load the bases, scored three more runs on a fielder's choice, a wild pitch and a single.

FSU reliever Nick Nuff (2-0) then closed the game out with a pop out an a 5-4-3 douhle play.

Michael Paul and Ricky Pardo each had two hits for the Hornets, with the former driving in his squad's final run on a two-out single in the sixth.

Pardo singled in the fourth and had a leadoff double in the seventh, but was cut down at third trying to stretch it into a triple.

Joe Coleman had the team's first RBI, driving in John Wilt with a double down the left field line in the second.

"That was an excellent college baseball game," SU skipper Kevin Anderson said. "Two quality pitchers on the mound who battled it out today.

"We have to give credit to Frostburg. They were a scrappy team that didn't give up. They just have tough kids."
