Women's Hoops Leads Department

The women's basketball team had a 3.76 GPA in the 2018 fall semester.

WINCHESTER, Va. – The women's basketball team had the athletic department's highest GPA in team grades announced Tuesday morning.

Eighteen of the department's 21 intercollegiate athletics programs had at least a 3.0 average GPA with all 11 women's programs at 3.10 or above.

The 18-woman basketball team had a 3.76 team GPA with four: Sarah Donley, Brooke Riley, Ashley Stone and Olivia Weinel, posting perfect 4.0 GPAs. Fifteen of the 18 earned Dean's List accolades (3.5 or above) and all 18 had at least a 3.36.

The golf team, with a 3.25, led the 10 men's teams. Seven of the 10 men's squads were at 3.15 or above and two of the remaining three were above 2.85.

Basketball was one of seven women's programs at 3.25 or better. Field hockey had a 3.59, lacrosse 3.32, cross country a 3.31, softball 3.28, and indoor and outdoor track & field both posted 3.26.

Overall, the women had a 3.34 GPA and the men a 3.08.

Individual academic honors for student-athletes will be announced later this week.
