WILLIAMSBURG, Va. – Shenandoah University Head Athletic Trainer Mike Kotelnicki, MS, ATC has been selected as the 2018 Athletic Trainer of the Year in selections announced recently by the Virginia Athletic Trainers Association.
Kotelnicki, in his 10th year as the Hornets head AT, will receive his award at the annual VATA Symposium at Kingsmill Resort in Williamsburg on January 6.
Kotelnicki was selected as the College or University Athletic Trainer of the Year in a vote of the VATA Executive Council from nominations submitted across the commonwealth.
"I am very humbled," Kotelnicki said of his award. "I was nominated by an athletic trainer at one of rival schools here in Virginia, and that means a great deal to me.
"We work very hard here at SU to provide the best care possible for our student-athletes and this award is recognition of the work that all of us in the athletic training clinic do everyday."
At Shenandoah, Kotelnicki supervises a staff of three assistant athletic trainers that serves the university's 450 student-athletes. He has primary sport coverage of the men's and women's cross country, men's lacrosse, men's soccer, and men's and women's indoor and outdoor track & field programs.
In addition, he serves as a preceptor for the Master's in Athletic Training program at SU.
