WINCHESTER, Va. - The Shenandoah University Department of Intercollegiate Athletics unveiled a re-designed website Thursday morning in conjunction with its website provider, PrestoSports.
The re-designed site is the fourth incarnation of the site since its original launch in April, 2008 and includes a number of incremental improvements to the site. The previous version of the site launched in August, 2014 and was refreshed in April, 2015 with the university's new athletic marks.
The composite calendar on the main page is much improved and displays the next five athletics events at a glance. The portal pages for each of the university's 21 programs contains this feature on their sport-specific calendars.
Bios for student-athletes and coaches have been updated to the latest PrestoSports template. Each student-athlete has tabs for biographical information, season and career stats (if applicable) as well as tabs for news articles and videos in which they have been mentioned. These final two tabs reset for each season and populate as student-athletes are tagged in news story or video.
Photos and graphics span the entire width of the screen.
The global navigation to each of the university's 21 teams once again links directly to each team page along with direct links to rosters, schedules and stats as well as each team's Twitter and Facebook pages.
This global navigation is a footer upon entry to the site and shifts to a header as fans scroll to the bottom of the page.
The site, like versions 2.0 and 3.0, is responsive to the device (computer, tablet, smartphone) on which it is displaying. The appropriate version of the site, with all of its features, displays automatically through this responsiveness.
One addition to the responsive versions of the site is that the story rotator for each sport remains visible after a sport link is clicked. For example, a visitor on a tablet or smartphone wishing to view a team roster or schedule would still see the four-story rotator available for viewing above the clicked link.
The global navigation bar contains general athletic department links, information for prospective student-athletes, summer camps and facilities. The final drop-down menu, 'follow us', contains links to the department's Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and RSS feeds as well as live stats, video and audio links. All of these links can also be found in the social stream.
