WINCHESTER, Va. – The Shenandoah University men's and women's basketball team both take to the road tomorrow for their final away games of the 2016-17 regular season.
Both games are the back end of home-and-home series and both contests are set for 7 p.m. starts.
On January 7, the SU women were 51-43 victors over Hollins while the Shenandoah men fell, 88-79, on January 21 to the Marlins.
A win for the Shenandoah women would clinch the No. 11 seed in the upcoming ODAC Tournament. Should the Hornets complete the season sweep, coach Melissa Smeltzer-Kraft's club would travel to the sixth-seed, most likely Randolph-Macon, Virginia Wesleyan or Washington and Lee, on Tuesday for an opening round contest.
The winner of that game would advance to Salem for a Friday quarterfinal round contest.
If the SU women lose, the Hornets and Hollins would be tied for 11th place with that seed decided following the completion of league play on Saturday.
Junior Kirstyn Arcata leads Smeltzer-Kraft's club in scoring at 9.9 points per game. Arcata had a season-high 19 points in a 64-57 win over Elmira on November 22 and posted a game-high 17 points in the 51-43 victory over HU on January 7.
French has five double-doubles this season.
The Shenandoah men seek their first-ever win versus Virginia Wesleyan in the 20th lifetime matchup between the two programs tomorrow.
Senior Malcolm Clark, who has 10 double-doubles this season and is third in the league in scoring at 17.5 points per game, will match up versus the Marlins' Khory Moore. Moore leads both VWC and the ODAC in scoring at 24.1 ppg.
In the first matchup of the season, Moore had 34 points and Clark 24 in the Marlins nine-point victory.
Coach Rob Pryor's club is currently tied with Washington and Lee for eighth place in the league. The No. 8 seed is the fourth and final first-round host Monday night in the opening round of the ODAC Tournament and SU is seeking both its first-ever home tournament game and its first-ever trip to Salem for the tournament quarterfinals. The men's quarterfinal round is set for Thursday.
