Taylor Leads Harriers

SALISBURY, Md. - The Shenandoah University men's cross country team posted its second strong finish of the 2011 cross country season Saturday morning with a fifth place showing at the Salisbury University Opener.

The Hornet men were fifth of 10 teams in a very strong field while the women finished seventh of 11.

Rowan (N.J.) won both the men's and women's meets with 40 and 44 points, respectively.

Shenandoah had 141 points in the men's race and 214 in the women's.

Sophomore Ryan Taylor paced the SU men with a 26:25, ninth place showing in the 112-man men's event.

Jake Garcia was 24th, Tim Robinson 38th, Jacob Brennan 39th and Kyle Gutierrez 52nd to round out the scoring runners.

On the women's side, Amy Smith was 28th of 139 with a 23:41. Dorothy Earner was 41st with a 24:18, Roni Frye 59th at 24:54, Emily Hesse 76th at 25:37 and Denise Mitchell 115th with a 27:43 to provide the 214-point total. 

Both teams are back in action next Saturday at the McDaniel Invitational.
