Harriers Picked Second

FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. - The Shenandoah University men's and women's cross country teams were both picked second in pre-season polls released Wednesday afternoon by the USA South Conference office.

The SU men and women, heading into their fourth season under the direction of head coach Andy Marrocco, is picked behind Christopher Newport in both polls.

Points are awarded on a 1-9 basis in the women's poll and a 1-5 basis in the men's and coaches cannot vote for themselves in the poll. Shenandoah had 73 points and one first place vote on the women's side and 21 and one on the men's. In both cases, CNU voted for Shenandoah has the league champion.

The Hornets finished second to the Captains in both races at the 2008 USA South Conference championships. Marrocco 10 returnees, five from each team, heading into the 2009 campaign.

The harriers have their first meet on September 5 at Salisbury University.
