Women's XC Third at Salisbury

SALISBURY, Md. - The Shenandoah University cross country teams each had record-setting performances Saturday morning at the Don Cathcart Invitational hosted by Salisbury University.
The SU women, the No. 9 team in this week's USTFCCCA South/Southeast Regional rankings, finished third of 12 teams as coach Andy Marrocco's squad turned in the three fastest 6000 meter times in school history.
Freshman Roni Frye led this trio with a 22:30, sixth-place showing while Jennie Ott was eighth with 22:38 and Amy Smith 13th at 23:21.
John Carroll (Ohio) won the race which featured 107 runners from NCAA Division II and III schools. East Stroudsburg (Pa.), a Division II school, was second.
Sophomore Kyle Gutierrez led the men to a sixth place finish out of 11 schools with a 26:52 in the 8000 meter event.
Like Frye in the women's race, Gutierrez' time is a new school record for the distance.
There were 198 runners in the men's race and East Stroudsburg took that title with 21 points.
Both teams are off next week and return to action on October 10 at the Carnegie Mellon Invitational in Pittsburgh.
