Women 10th at Regionals

GREENSBORO, N.C. - Shenandoah University completed its 2009 cross country season Saturday afternoon with 10th and 16th place finishes at the NCAA South/Southeast Regional meet hosted by Guilford College.

The SU women, who have been ranked in the region all season long, lived up to that billing by finishing 10 of 27 teams in the 6000 meter event.

Rhodes (Tenn.) won it with 35 points while Emory (Ga.) was second and fellow USA South member Christopher Newport third.

Junior Jennie Ott earned All-Region honors with her 27th place finish. Ott had a 24:58 in the race to become the second Hornets runner in as many years to grab an All-Region accolade.

Freshman Tracey Swope and sophomore Amy Smith, who was the All-Region honoree last year, backed up Ott with 52nd and 53rd place performances.

The SU men were 16th of 24 teams with 451 points and beat league rival CNU for the first time this season in the process.

Sophomore Josiah Renton, who won the USA South Conference meet two weeks ago, was the team's top finisher with a 29:11 in the 8000 meter event.
