Harriers Hold at Fifth

NEW ORLEANS, La. -The Shenandoah University women's cross country team remained as the No. 5 team in the South/Southeast Regional poll released Tuesday by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA).

After moving up to No. 5 last week, the Hornets remained in the spot this week as the USTFCCCA released a "repeat poll" for week seven.

With conference championships around the country coming up this weekend, no teams competed this past week in order to prepare for their respective races. Therefore, the USTFCCCA carried all polls from week six into week seven.

The USA South Conference Championships are Saturday at Hagen Stone Park in Greensboro, N.C. Shenandoah is seeking to end Christopher Newport University's run of 16 consecutive men's titles and 11 consecutive women's championships in the two championships.

Since 1980, CNU has won every men's cross country title except a Methodist title in 1987 and every women's title with the exception of an Averett championship in 1997.

The announcement of the USA South Conference major awards (Coach, Runner and Rookie of the Year) for both men and women is expected tomorrow afternoon.
