Women Harriers Move Up
NEW ORLEANS, La. - The Shenandoah University women's cross country team improved by two spots its regional ranking in polls announced Tuesday by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA).
One week after entering the rankings for the first-time ever at No. 9, the Hornet women improved to No. 7 in this week's South/Southeast Regional poll.
SU moved up in the poll after finishing third of 12 teams at this past week's Don Cathcart Invitational hosted by Salisbury University. The Hornets had the three fastest times in school history for the 6000 meters at the event.
As with last week, Shenandoah is one of two USA South Conference schools to be ranked; Christopher Newport University holds at No. 3 behind Emory (Ga.) and Rhodes (Tenn.). Six of the 10 schools in this week's rankings are from Virginia - in addition to SU and CNU, Mary Washington is fourth, Washington & Lee fifth, Lynchburg sixth and Roanoke is ninth.
Catholic (D.C.) and McMurry (Tex.) are new additions to the week three poll.
The women are off this week and return to action on October 10 at the Carnegie Mellon Invitational in Pittsburgh.
