Frye Wins Hood Invitational

FREDERICK, Md. - Shenandoah University had an individual champion and a team runner-up performance Saturday afternoon at the Hood College Invitational.

The Hornet men had a season-best second place showing in the 14-team, 123-man men's race while freshman Roni Frye earned her first collegiate victory by besting 109 other runners in the women's 6000 meter event.

Frye had a 24:40 to win by just under three seconds over Catholic's Remy Ball. Running without three of the team's top runners because of academic commitments, the women also had the fifth, 14th, 30th and 44th place finishers to come in fourth overall among 13 teams.

Frye's classmate, Tracey Swope, had that fifth place showing with a 25:42.

Coach Andy Marrocco's men posted the fifth, ninth, 12th, 15th and 35th to come in second to champion York College of Pennsylvania.

Sophomore Josiah Renton had that fifth place finish with a 28:26 and the 28:31 by Kyle Gutierrez was good for ninth.
