Women Second at Dickinson


CARLISLE, Pa. - The SU cross country teams continued their strong starts to the 2009 season with a pair of solid showings Saturday at the Dickinson College Long/Short Invitational.

Competing in the 4000 meter (short) portion of the event for both men and women, the Hornet women were 2nd of 25 teams and the men 10th out of 25.

Freshman Roni Frye was the top finisher for the women for the second straight outing with a 15:21 that was good for ninth out of 173 runners. Junior Jennie Ott backed up Frye by finishing 13th at 15:40 and sophomore Amy Smith was 15th with a 15:47.

Sophomore Josiah Renton led the men to that 10th place showing by posting a 12:54, 19th place finish. His classmate, Kyle Gutierrez, was 43rd with a 13:21 and Jake Garcia 50th at 13:27. There were 173 runners in the men's race.

The men and women return Salisbury next week for the Don Cathcart Invitational.
