All-USA South Academic Announced

FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. – Shenandoah University had 94 student-athletes earn USA South All-Academic honors in selections announced Thursday by the conference office.

For the 10th consecutive year, all 20 intercollegiate teams were represented among the 74 student-athletes earning All-Academic status.

To be named to the USA South Conference All-Academic team, student-athletes must earn at least a 3.0 GPA on a 4.0 scale in both semesters of the academic year.

The baseball team, with 17 student-athletes honored, led the department in total selections while the women's cross country team had the highest percentage. Nine of the 10 members of that team (90 percent) were named Academic All-USA South.

Those nine women were also a part of the women's track & field team that led the nation in GPA last season and the 2010 women's cross country team was previously honored by the USTFCCCA for their academic achievement this year. The women had a collective 3.48 GPA on a 4.0 scale heading into the spring semester.

Ten student-athletes in the total group earned ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District III accolades with one, junior baseball player Greg Van Sickler, being named Academic All-America.

Van Sickler's selection as Academic All-America makes it four straight years that the department has had at least one student-athlete earn that honor.
