Amy Smith Earns Academic Honor

NEW ORLEANS, La. - Shenandoah University freshman cross country runner Amy Smith and the SU women cross country team were both recently honored by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCA) as cross country Scholar-Athletes.

Smith, who was named as the USA South Conference Rookie of the Year this past fall, was one of 220 women honored by the USTFCCCA for their performances in the classroom.

Smith and her teammmates, who had an average GPA of 3.432 on a 4.0 scale, were one of 157 women's teams with over a 3.3 average GPA to earn a team Scholar-Athlete designation.

The Hornets had the 69th best GPA in NCAA Division III, and it was also tops in the 10-team USA South.
