WASHINGTON, D.C. – The Shenandoah University volleyball team opened up tournament play at Catholic University of America Friday by splitting its two matches.
Shenandoah (2-5) won its first match of the day 3-1 over Gallaudet.
SU came out strong taking the first set 25-13 before the Bison bounced back in the second set 25-18. The Hornets then answered with a 25-17 victory in the third and closed out the match with a 25-14 triumph in the fourth.
The Hornets fell to the host team, Catholic, 3-1, in their second match of the day.
SU again jumped out to a nice start by claiming the first set 25-17, but came up just short in sets two through four. Catholic won those three sets at 20, 19, and 19.
Four players had at least with seven kills in the match with Harris' 10 leading the way.
Yet again, Shannon and Lamont led the SU defense by totaling 50 digs.
Coach Jaime Terenzi's club is back in action tomorrow for day two of the Catholic University of America tournament. They will take on Pitt-Greensburg at 10:00 and Wesley at noon. For Terenzi, her next victory will be No. 100 as the Hornets head coach.
