WINCHESTER, Va. - Shenandoah University Head Women's Volleyball Coach Jaime Terenzi announced a class Wednesday morning of three women who will continue their academic and athletic careers at Shenandoah University.
Terenzi, heading into her third season at the helm of the Hornets women's volleyball program, will add these three women to a group of 15 returnees.
Blake Parkes, a Millbrook graduate, joins Front Royal native Allie Pieper and Tila Thomas in joining the program.
Thomas, a 5'0" defensive specialist, hails from New Castle, Del.
Parkes was a first team All-Northwestern District honoree last season for the Pioneers and is expected to compete right away for an outside hitter spot.
Pieper was a volleyball/basketball star at nearby Shenandoah Valley Christian Academy. In addition to her on-court exploits, she was the TV 3-Winchester Student-Athlete of the Week the first week in March.
Parkes and Pieper were both named second team All-Area.
"We were very selective in our recruiting this year because of the number of returnees in the program," Terenzi said.
"I am very confident that this class is going to mesh well with the returnees and all three are capable of being major contributors right away."
Shenandoah finished the 2011 season, its last in the USA South, with an 18-17 overall record.
The win total is a new program record.
The 2012 season begins on September 1 at Hood.
