WINCHESTER, Va. – Senior Alyssa White is back with her second women's tennis blog entry of the spring, and this week she recaps the squad's spring break trip.
We just returned from an exciting trip to Hilton Head, South Carolina where we stayed over spring break competing in the Spring Tennis Fest! We left Sunday morning, March 4 and returned late Friday, March 9.
During the week, we practiced outside to prepare for our Wednesday match against Defiance (Ohio) College. We had an exciting 5-4 win which leaves us with a 2-0 record so far!
On Thursday, the men also played Defiance (a 7-2 win!). We were able to rent bikes to ride to watch their match and biking through the back roads of Hilton Head Island was beautiful.
Even though we won, the best part of this trip is the experience of traveling with a sports team. It is something a player will never forget. It's the chance to get to know your teammates that you see almost every day on a different level. There are a couple of moments that really stood out to me. The first going bowling with everyone on the team including the new additions we had this year. Even though this turned into just as much competition as a tennis match does, it was a really notable bonding experience. The other moment was going to the beach with everyone. We had Melodie (Melodie Madison) playing her guitar for us, people singing, and others playing football and paddle ball. Everyone was laughing and just truly enjoying being away and together.
The last night before we went to head out on the long drive back home we went out to a really elegant Italian restaurant. We have three vegans on the team, and a couple more teammates experimented with being vegan for the week so they got to choose the place to eat. As a team, we all dressed up in the best clothes we all packed, took pictures, and ate one of the best meals we've ever had. In this moment, you felt like you were a family. This is our family away from our homes, and I think that is something that everyone noticed during this break and are extremely thankful for.
