Women's Tennis Strong at ITA

FREDERICKSBURG, Va. - The Shenandoah University women's tennis team posted three wins Saturday on the opening day of the ITA Southeast Regional Championships.

Shenandoah posted two singles, along with one in doubles, on the first day of the three-day tournament.

Freshman Morgan Fuqua had the singles victories. Playing in the Blue 3 flight, Fuqua opened with a 6-0, 6-0 win over Randolph's Aubrey Hawn.

In the quarterfinals, Fuqua took out Brooke Warden from Thomas More (Ky.) 6-3, 6-3. 

Fuqua is up again in the semi-finals Sunday morning versus Haverford's Jessica Liu.

In doubles, Melodie Madison and Denise Vollmer were 8-3 victors over Virginia Wesleyan's Jacklyn Cheely and Aubrey Johnson.

That win advanced Madison and Vollmer into a quarterfinal round match versus Jennifer Elder and Melissa Karidis from Germanna CC, where Elder and Karidis were 8-2 winners.

Madison, Emma Crue and Alyssa White all dropped their opening singles matches and have Sunday consolations scheduled.

In doubles, Fuqua and Caitlin Tilton will play a Sunday consolation after dropping their opening match.
