Playing neutral site matches in Lynchburg, the SU women were 8-1 winners with the Hornet men falling 5-4.
The Shenandoah women are now 4-2 overall and 1-1 in the USA South with the victory. The men fall to 0-6 overall and 0-2 in the league.
The women got things started on a positive note by winning two of three in doubles. Carla Wong and Shannon Allin combined to win 8-1 at No. 1 while Rachel Gross and Kelsey Brewster were leading 3-0 when FC (2-6, 1-2) had to default the match due to injury.
The injured player was unable to continue, which gave Shenandoah a default victory at No. 6 singles and a 3-1 advantage.
Now needing just two of five victories in singles, the women erased all doubt by sweeping the contested matches in straight sets.
Wong won 6-1, 6-2 at No. 1 and Allin 7-5, 6-3 at No. 2 to give each woman a second victory on the day.
Rachel Gross clinched it with a 6-1, 6-1 victory at No. 4.
The Ferrum men (1-6, 1-0) won two of three doubles matches, which ended up being the deciding factor in the match. SU and FC split the six singles matches, with Shenandoah winning at Nos. 2, 4 and 5. The Nos. 4 and 5 matches both went to a third set.
Both teams host Stevenson on Thursday in a non-league match.
